Meet Mojo ๐Ÿพ

Mojo is a therapy dog and a much-loved part of As You Are. Gentle, friendly, and naturally drawn to people, he can bring a calming and reassuring presence to the therapeutic space.

For some children, young people, and adults, having a dog nearby can make therapy feel a little less daunting โ€” supporting comfort and connection, helping reduce stress and anxiety, and creating a space where it may feel easier to engage, communicate, and simply be yourself.

How Mojo Helps

Animal-Assisted Support

Animal-assisted support involves thoughtfully incorporating an animal into therapeutic, educational, or wellbeing activities. For children and young people in particular, interacting with a therapy dog can offer a natural and less pressured way to build trust and connection, encourage communication and engagement, support confidence and self-esteem, and provide comfort during difficult or overwhelming moments.

Sometimes having Mojo nearby creates another way of connecting when talking directly about thoughts or feelings feels difficult. Interaction might happen through play, caring for him, sitting quietly together, or simply having his reassuring presence in the room.

In Individual Therapy

Within individual therapy at As You Are, Mojo can be part of sessions where this feels helpful and appropriate โ€” supporting connection, communication, and comfort alongside the therapeutic work.

During Walk & Talk Therapy

Mojo may also accompany established clients during Walk & Talk Therapy, adding another element of companionship and connection while spending time outdoors.

Your Comfort Comes First

Always Your Choice

Having Mojo involved in therapy is always an option, never an expectation. Not everyone likes dogs, feels comfortable around them, or wants an animal to be part of their therapy โ€” and that's completely okay. You can choose whether or not you would like Mojo to be present, and your therapy will never be affected by that decision.

Sometimes Mojo may be actively involved in a session, sometimes he may simply curl up nearby, and sometimes he won't join us at all. His involvement will always be guided by what feels comfortable and appropriate for you.

The comfort, safety, and wellbeing of both clients and Mojo are always carefully considered and remain at the centre of every interaction.

Beyond the Therapy Room

Mojo Out in the Community

Mojo's work reaches beyond individual therapy โ€” offering comfort, companionship, and connection to people at many different stages of life.

Schools, Universities & Educational Settings

Mojo is available for planned visits to schools, universities, and other educational settings as part of wellbeing, educational, and supportive programmes. He has extensive experience supporting children and young people, including within Life Skills and Autism programmes, reading activities, and wider wellbeing initiatives.

He has also supported students during busy and stressful periods, including before and after exams, offering an opportunity to pause, connect, and enjoy his comfort and companionship.

Visits can be tailored to the setting โ€” individual pupils or students, small groups, classes, established programmes, or wider wellbeing initiatives.

Community Support

Mojo has experience supporting children and families during grief and bereavement, including being present around funeral services and as part of supportive responses following suicide. At times when words can be difficult to find, he can offer a gentle presence, a moment of connection, and the comfort of simply having him nearby.

He has also visited hospitals, drug and alcohol addiction services, assisted living settings, and services supporting people with disabilities โ€” connecting with people experiencing illness and recovery, loneliness, uncertainty, and significant life challenges.

Community visits are considered individually and thoughtfully planned around the people, circumstances, and setting involved.
